Half Day Introduction to Alpacas

This will cover the following:

History- origins, indigenous environment, animal family, modern Alpacas

Care - Type of environment, feeds, monitoring

Local Environment - Sizing, Fencing, Nourishment

Husbandry - Regular treatments, innoculations, grooming

Mating - Methods, Gestation, birthing, ante-natal care

Fleece - Shearing, quality, testing, processing, products

Animals - Choice of animals, reasons for buying, what to look for.

This is a half day theory course and includes a tour of the farm and of course, meeting the animals.

The course is aimed at those who have little or no knowledge of Alpacas and perhaps find out more before making decision about owning alpacas

One day course in Alpaca Management

This will cover the following:

General overview of Alpacas - Origins, behaviour, Modern Alpacas

Care and Husbandry - Feeds, Environment, Health, Grooming

Breeding - Choices of animals, methods, blood lines, mating, birthing, ante-natal care

Stock - Choice of animals, reasons for owning Alpacas, farm requirements

Financials and Administration - Breeding for sale or fleece, added value, record keeping, costs.

This is a one day theory and practical course. Half the day is theory and half the day is practical.  The practical will include handling animals, giving injections, cutting toenails, examining and weighing cria, halter and walking.

Lunch is included.

The course is aimed at those who have decided to own alpacas, who want more in depth information and practical advice.
